CUC Southern Downs provides local students with the facilities, technology, and support to complete their studies without leaving the region. Based in Warwick, our Centre serves the entire Southern Downs community, fostering a connected and supportive learning environment. Our mission is to improve access to higher education and deliver real outcomes for our region.
The Role of the Board
Our Board plays a vital role in guiding the Centre’s strategic direction and impact. We are a strategic leadership team dedicated to ensuring the Centre thrives. Board membership is for a three-year term, with a minimum of four meetings annually. This is a voluntary, non-stipendiary appointment.
Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking to build a balanced Board with a diverse mix of skills and experience. Prospective members should possess qualifications, experience, or attributes in one or more of the following areas:
- Youth & Community Connection: A current understanding of the challenges and opportunities for young people in relation to tertiary education.
- Corporate Governance: Expertise in governance principles. A Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD) qualification is highly regarded.
- Not-for-Profit (NFP) Sector: Understanding of the operations of NFPs and charities.
- Tertiary Education: Knowledge of Australia’s tertiary education structures, student needs, and the challenges of lifelong learning in a regional context.
- Legal & Compliance: Understanding of legal matters, including policy development and tax obligations.
- Human Resources (HR): Experience in HR management and strategy.
- Business Acumen: Strong commercial and financial skills.
- Marketing & Communications: Expertise in marketing, communications, and social media.
- Government Relations: A strong connection to local, state, or federal government.

The Chair, in consultation with current Board members, will oversee the evaluation of applications. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview.
