160+ Students and Growing: Celebrating our CUC Southern Downs Community
We are incredibly proud to share that CUC Southern Downs has now supported more than 160 students since opening our doors in July last year.
What started as a vision to bring accessible, supported tertiary education to our region has quickly grown into a vibrant, welcoming study community. Every day, our Centre is filled with students working towards their goals, each with their own story, pathway, and definition of success.
A Centre Full of Purpose
Walk through our doors on any given day and you will see it in action.
Students deep in assignment work, headphones on and focused.
Others preparing for upcoming exams, making the most of a quiet, dedicated study space. Some jumping on Zoom tutorials or lectures between work shifts, and others simply dropping in for a quick reset, a coffee, or a bit of encouragement to keep going.
Beyond the desks, many of our students are out in the community gaining real world experience. We have students currently on placements and prac across a range of industries, building skills, confidence, and connections that will shape their futures and strengthen our region.
Supporting Every Step of the Journey
At CUC Southern Downs, it is never just about having a place to study, it is about making sure students feel supported, capable, and connected.
For some, that means help with referencing or structuring an assignment. For others, it is navigating enrolment systems, technology, or exam arrangements. And sometimes, it is simply having someone check in and ask, “How are you going?”
We know that many of our students are balancing study with work, family, and life commitments. Some study early in the morning before a shift. Others come in late at night after putting kids to bed. Some prefer the quiet independence of after-hours access, while others thrive during staffed times with a bit more interaction.
However they choose to study, we are here.
Celebrating the Wins
Reaching 160 students is a milestone worth celebrating, but what really matters are the individual wins behind that number.
Students submitting their first university assignment.
Passing exams they were nervous about.
Returning to study after years away.
Starting degrees they never thought were possible locally.
Completing placements and stepping confidently into their chosen fields.
These moments might seem small from the outside, but they are significant, and they add up.
We have also seen incredible growth in awareness and engagement across the Southern Downs. More people are discovering that they can study locally, stay connected to their community, and still achieve their education and career goals.
Looking Ahead
This is just the beginning.
As we continue to grow, our focus remains the same. Supporting our students, strengthening local pathways, and ensuring that access to education is not limited by postcode.
To every student who has walked through our doors, thank you for being part of this journey. You are the reason this Centre exists, and we are so proud to be part of your story.
Here’s to the next 160.
